Question Statistcs on how many people play which musical instruments?
Does anyone know of a site which has statistics on the number of people who play different musical Instruments/ combinations of instuments. I want to see whether its a plan or not to design a double necked guitar with a keyboard as one and a six string string as the other, so something which tells me how many people play both keybord/piano and guitar is what I'm really looking for. I'm just gutter someones already trademarked "Keytar"

Question Is it silly of me to buy a musical instrument as a christmas present for my eldest daughter?
She's not asked for anything for christmas, well she's asked for one thing but it's impossible to get a hold of for her. She's six and has been playing the violin for three years now but they have been borrowed violins from her teacher and every month we have to give it back and get a new one so it can be tuned but they aren't always tuned and some are really fragile or need strings replacing. Getting her a violin of her own would just be easier and she can actually take it with her to her grandparents' and aunts' and uncles' houses. Her grandmother thinks it's a bad idea of mine to buy her this violin instead of what she wants though her grandmother doesn't know what she really wants. Her grandmother doesn't really approve anything I do regarding my two daughters. She also thinks it is unfair that I am thinking of spending so much on one big item for my eldest but not as much on one item for the youngest. The violin I've seen is £209 and that was the cheapest I have seen so far.
Best Answer How Brilliant! It's a fantastic idea. What better gift could there be, and she's been playing the violin for three years so it's not exactly a passing fancy. If it's the right gift then that's the most important thing - another year your younger child will have something more expensive. Does it have to be new though? there must be loads of children who've given up or outgrown their instrument. Maybe you'll be able to get good quality violin for less outlay.
